Kangaroo Valley
Kangaroo Valley is a little over 2 hrs south of Sydney, just inland from the NSW South Coast town of Berry. It is one of only 7 totally enclosed valleys in the world. Surrounded by spectacular escarpments, the vegetation is a unique mix of forest and woodland, heath, rainforest and rolling green pastures. The valley is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including the rare and endangered Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby.
The historic township of Kangaroo Valley still retains much of its pioneering character, alongside an array of galleries, village shops and cafes.
There are many ways to enjoy the natural beauty of this magnificent valley - bushwalks, trail rides, canoeing, mountain biking. If you’re planning a walk, pick up a copy of the NPW publication Walks Guide - Kangaroo Valley and Adjacent National Parks from either Hampden Cottage or Kangaroo Valley Woodcrafts. Alternatively, take a drive and explore the Kangaroo River. Great places to visit are Bendeela, Beehive Point and Tallowa Dam. If you feel like a swim, drive out along Upper River Road to Flat Rock and Minni Ha Ha Falls.
Please visit the Kangaroo Valley Tourist Association website for a wealth of information about tourist activities in the area, including some very useful maps!
For those with a little more time, why not explore some of the national parks in the area. Drive up to Fitzroy Falls in Morton National Park, or head out to some of the glorious beaches of the South Coast. These include Gerringong, Seven Mile Beach National Park, the Jervis Bay area and Booderee National Park.
